Personal injury

Personal injury picture

Psychological assessments for the Civil Court are often requested to determine whether an individual is likely to be suffering from a psychological disorder and if so, whether it is likely to be attributable to a particular event or trauma.

Often, the issues of psychological injury pertain to traumatic events such as road traffic accidents or assaults. In these circumstances, victims can suffer post-traumatic symptoms such as nightmares and flashbacks of the event, avoidance of reminders or the development of a negative view of themselves. In other cases, traumatic incidents can result in brain injury leading to potential changes in thinking, attention and memory abilities. Of course, in many circumstances individuals can suffer a combination of brain injury and psychological trauma.

We are able to provide psychological reports on these issues and have the breadth of clinical experience to work across the lifespan. In addition, the collective specialist training that Associates have in relation to Adult Neuropsychology, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR: a psychological treatment for trauma) and expert witness skills means that we have experience directly relevant to these cases.

Assessment Process

Assessments normally take place in our consulting rooms, solicitors’ offices or when appropriate, the client’s home. Assessments include detailed analysis of relevant background information documents, a full clinical interview with the client and administration of psychometric measures. As with all reports offered, a psychological formulation of the client’s presenting difficulties is offered in order to contextualize the responses to instructing questions.
