Core Philosophies
All our services are based around a number of core philosophies. These determine how we approach each individual and situation, ensuring that everybody has the best chance of a fair and helpful solution to their issues.
Ethical
Each individual has the right to access a high quality and professional service. To enable this, Psychologists working for Compass are familiar with issues relating to confidentiality, informed consent, supervision, record keeping and continuing professional development.
Respectful
Each person will be treated with respect, with recognition that talking about personal issues can be difficult. It is recognised that human life is a spectrum of experience and it is the role of the Psychologist to accept and value clients for their uniqueness and individuality and to challenge stereotypes, assumptions and social biases.
Transparent
Like many specialist areas, Psychology comes with its own array of technical language. Clear language and communication help to reduce potential confusion and to promote a common understanding of issues.
Thorough
At the heart of a comprehensive assessment is a thorough gathering of information from various sources. Hypotheses are generated and tested against the information that is provided and the Psychologists will search for further data to inform their opinion. Triangulation of information and a critical analysis of where this comes from and its reliability and validity are also issues that are central to the work that we do.
Timely
We believe that the less time that individuals have unresolved difficulties or decisions the better. The timely delivery of reports is very important to us as is the quality of the service. Timescales do have to move sometimes for a variety of reasons. However, on the rare occasions that this does happen, we will keep you informed at the earliest opportunity.
