Jodie Rawlings – Associate
Dr Jodie Rawlings is a Clinical Psychologist with a specialism in working with young people, families and systems, who are involved with Children’s Services.
Prior to her clinical training, Dr Rawlings completed a research doctorate, in which she used different methodologies to explore the relationship between mood and impulsivity in predicting high risk behaviour in young adults. As part of this work, Dr Rawlings also spent time at the Shanghai Mental Health Centre, investigating cross-cultural variances in impulsivity and mood.
The findings of her research have been published in peer reviewed journals, and presented at a range of national and international conferences. On completion of her PhD, Dr Rawlings went on to work within Primary Care, using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to support adults with mild to moderate mental health difficulties. She also worked within a specialist dementia service, assessing cognitive changes in older adults and supporting them during and following a dementia diagnosis. She then undertook her Clinical Psychology doctorate, working with a range of populations and undertaking further research.
Since qualifying in 2017, Dr Rawlings has worked across a range of NHS and Local Authority roles supporting the mental health and wellbeing of children who are looked after and the networks around them. This has including developing and leading new specialist services within the area. She is currently employed part-time in the NHS, as lead Psychologist for a specialist service for young people who are looked after and who are at risk of moving to residential care.
To support her work, Dr Rawlings has undertaken further specialist training in Non-Violence Resistance, Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Theraplay. She is skilled in undertaking comprehensive assessments within complex systems, and forming coherent and relevant formulations, which support the system around a young person to meet their needs.
Dr Rawlings is experienced in producing Expert Witness reports for the Courts, having undertaken a wide range of assessments of adults and children. She has completed full training in Expert Witness Skills through Cardiff University Bond Solon course.
Alongside her clinical work, Dr Rawlings has maintained an engagement with the academic community, including lecturing at the Universities of Bath and Exeter.
She held a clinical lectureship at the University of Exeter, supporting the training and development of Clinical Associate Psychologists.
